OK Colin, you must be the physicist... It looks easy enough, but how would you easily connect the ground from the headset controller to the faraday cage? They have a nice open ground connection on their device they stick inside which they alligator clip to the cage.

The problem is I assume it is coming from the antenna! The headset needs the shielding.

for me it seems to be entering from my control box, as the loudness changes depending on where I move it to. Just would need to put the controller in a little cage

Any pattern for which headset makes/models have the problem? Both of our routinely used headsets are Lightspeeds: Sierra and Zulu and do not exhibit any problems.

Something I recently noticed which may or may not be related. For all I know it's been going on all along. Every couple of seconds a very low volume "boop" coming through. This is with both Lightspeed headsets. My understanding of ADS-B is that my transponder should be putting out a signal once per second, so this interval doesn't line up with that. Nor anything else I can think of It's not intrusive unless I let it be

I believe that is your transponder transmitting when it is interrogated.

Not likely. It happens on the ground, in the closed hangar and miles from possible radar interrogations. Moreover, yesterday I specifically listened for it while airborne and I didn't hear it all until I was close to the ground. Maybe it's getting drowned out by the additional background noise.

Guys/gals, I never noticed it at all... until I started recording audio (for YouTube) off the intercom. So without background noise from the engine, the somewhat random, somewhat periodic pulse is very noticeable. I'm going to try a Faraday bag and report back.Rich wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 12:25 amNot likely. It happens on the ground, in the closed hangar and miles from possible radar interrogations. Re: 1090mhz ADS-B / noise cancelling Headset noise.
I figured mine out. I thought I recognized the sound. It was coming from my iPad. It turns out the cable I was using isn't quite up to charging the iPad Pro 11. So the iPad would go back and forth between accepting the charge (see the little lightning bolt) and not (bolt goes away. Each time the charging symbol came on I'd get the "boop" sound. The same sound it always makes when I plug a power source in (duh). Changed cables and voila! the intermittent sound went away, charges full time.

Re: 1090mhz ADS-B / noise cancelling Headset noise.
Sorry, but nothing to add from this side. I made two changes for a flight I made today, (1) turned up the squelch threshold on the pilot mic, and (2) tried a Faraday bag. Seems in my case #1 was the gremlin... as the mic previously was picking even very soft nasal exhales... not detectable in the aircraft, but the little pops came thru somewhat loud and clear on the voice recordings I was making. Good thing is that I found my gremlin (#1); bad thing is I can't provide any feedback on whether a Faraday bag (#2) would help the other issues noted on this thread.
Stay safe and healthy,
