One of the Camlocks on my cowling had to be replaced because it no longer held or locked. it turns out that the base was severely worn. The photo below shows the base. If you think of the two rivets as W and E, then there are two "slots" (think intersecting runways) in the base. There should only be one (the "larger" runway from W-E). The intersecting slot that runs from N-NE to S-SW was worn in the base. Drilled out the rivets and replaced with new base from Aircraft Spruce.

FWIW, we've been slowly replacing all our Camlocs with stainless equivalents from Skybolt (www.skybolt.com/).
They obviously don't tarnish, and also seem more durable. We started with the wheel pants and the fasteners still look like new.

Wow that’s a lot of wear. It seems like maybe the installed camloc is too long such that it is loose enough to vibrate in the receptacle during flight. I would experiment with shorter ones.
