When I needed prop work done, it worked the same way. The prop shop is not even at an airport. They send a truck around the service shops once a week and pickup / drop off props. No shipping charges.

Re: Looking for a loaner/rental Propeller
What is the general guidance for when to do a prop overhaul? We are now at the stage where it is advised, but there are no issues, so how long should one leave this... or just get it done? Appreciate comments and advice.

At about 1900 Tach hours, I sent out the prop and governor for inspection. Governor needed overhaul and prop needed new hub (corrosion).

Re: Looking for a loaner/rental Propeller
Just my personal experience, but...
First overhaul was done at 534 hours/12 years on recommendation of my A&P/IA. No issues, other than occasionally spitting grease. Overhaul included sending hub to Germany for steel sleeve installation. A few other internal parts were worn/damaged (as I recall they were the plastic spacers that keep the ball bearings aligned).
Second overhaul was done at roughly 800 hours/7 years due to a prop strike. Believe it or not, a guy backed his pickup truck into my spinning prop on the taxiway. I upgraded to the scimitar 183-59b blades, and the shop also replaced the blade bearing races (at wear limits).

In short, his auto insurance certainly will be paying a lot. I hired an attorney to ensure that they cover my entire loss, plus the engine rebuild, loss of use, etc. That is a story for another post. I don't want to say too much, since it certainly will be in litigation.
