Rust on the fuel hose connexion
Hello,
While inspecting the maintenances holes for another reason I discovered rust on the thread of the fuel hose connexion to each tank.
I never inspected before, so I cannot tell if it’s getting worse fast.
What would you do?
Thanks for your tips.
Arnaud.

Re: Rust on the fuel hose connexion
I am guessing from your comments that this isn't it, but maybe: http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin ... ncl-WI.pdf
Further, with the relatively early serial number, it may be simply a previously unreported issue that is similar.
Regardless, replace!

Re: Rust on the fuel hose connexion
Thank you!
Do you think that it really has to be replaced? Is it not possible to remove the rust manually?
Do you know if the wings has to be removed for that. Do you know if these hoses are expensives?
They have been changed in 2013 on my plane for MSI and the plane is not living neither outside nor close to the see.

Re: Rust on the fuel hose connexion
Maybe I get it wrong because it doesn't seem to be the fuel hose, but the fuel probe.
The picture are from the pilot wing (LH).

Re: Rust on the fuel hose connexion
That is the fuel line all right. I was just looking at that connection on mine.
On yours, I'm not sold that it's rust/corrosion you're seeing. It could be something like thread lube or anti-seize compound used previously. I would try cleaning it up with some solvent and see how that turns out. You should be able to do this with everything still in place.

Re: Rust on the fuel hose connexion
Hi Rich,
I will try, but the pictures on the forum has lost their quality, so we cannot really, but it looks like rust. I will tell you .
On my pictures we can also see black "paste". I think it has been placed here (only on one tank) because of leakage. Do you know if this is lasting long or if I have to do something?

Re: Rust on the fuel hose connexion
Note that my fuel fitting shows no such rust and it's easily as old as yours. Maybe the replacement line you have is a non-standard part. I was looking at this area recently, thinking I would need to pull the line to get at the finger-filter. I concluded one might be able to remove it without pulling the wing, but it'd be a teeth-grinding exercise. Do the fittings on both sides show this problem?astaib wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 2:08 pm Hi Rich,

That black goop is probably a leak repair, using something like J-B Weld. Once or twice I've heard of pinholes forming in the lower part of the inner cell, probably triggered by moisture accumulation. J-B Weld, in particular, has a really good reputation for lasting forever. I would leave it unless it starts to leak. In that case you'll likely need to replace the inner cell.

The other side looks like this:
BTW is it really the hose or the probe? I have to go and check again.
The J-B Weld do its job perfectly, no leak !
Arnaud.
There is something similar but the area is smaller as the hose looks screwed deeper.BTW is it really the hose or the probe? I have to go and check again.

BTW, the safety-wire job for your pilot-side fuel drain is poorly done. Your other side is an example of how it should be done.

Re: Rust on the fuel hose connexion
In looking more carefully, it would appear this stuff is actually on the fuel finger filters to which the fuel lines connect. These are probably the originals. The IPC shows it a bit better than the AMM.
