winter baffles & CHT Temps
I've been using my winter baffles. Air temp 30F-45F and I notice my CHT on Cyl #1 keeps running around 400-420 if I lean. Normally I am around 385F.
I am wondering if the baffle is my problem.

Maybe. What does the engine kit block? I thought it was just a partial obstruction to the oil cooler.Ultrapilot1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 2:03 pm I've been using my winter baffles. Air temp 30F-45F and I notice my CHT on Cyl #1 keeps running around 400-420 if I lean. Normally I am around 385F.

Rich:
The engine baffle installs in the right side air intake at the front of the cowling. It does reduce airflow to the oil cooler, but it would also tend to reduce cooling airflow to the right 2 cylinders (1 & 3). If Steven is still based in FL, I doubt that the winter baffle is needed...

Re: winter baffles & CHT Temps
Well, that would do it. I'd remove it. I've found that cold CHT's are not a problem down into -5 C, at least. Oil temperatures now are a different story.

OK Thanks Rich, I'll give it a shot and see what my oil temps turn out to be. Worst case I can tape off part of the oil cooler if needed.

Re: winter baffles & CHT Temps
Hello pilots, I have recently found out that I have a winter kit (yeah, I should know that before, but that's my reality).
So, I am trying to install it and I found out that the hole where the baffle has to be connected to is too big and the baffle pin has nothing to hook on.
It looks like something inside the hole is missing.
Any thoughts on that?
Sorry if I use incorrect terms, English is not my native and when it comes to technical stuff it's even worse

Re: winter baffles & CHT Temps
Steven, for what's its worth, when I lived in Tampa I never installed the winter kit. Just does not get cold enough. I would not use it.
Now in Boston... it's a different matter!

Re: winter baffles & CHT Temps
Andrew: I am living in Tenn. now but apparently 45 degs. is still not cold enough to need the winter kit. I removed it and my temps are back to normal now.
