Looking to add GPSS and replace a turn coordinator in our 2002 DA40 with a 6 pack. Does anybody know of a shop in socal that does this? Most I have spoken with do not seem very interested in figuring out the third party roll steering converter.

The TC is a separate deal but installing an Aspen or dual G5s (and the appropriate extras) will get you GPSS. Somebody here once did install the simple DAC GDC31 GPSS converter several years back. Given the newer options many shops may not be familiar with it, but it doesn't look involved other than where to install the box in the cramped space behind the panel. For all legacy autopilots what it does is provide an alternative input for using the transponder in HDG mode.

reviving my own dead thread here. our 172S has a GDC31 which we may be removing in favor of GI275s which include the GPSS unit. thinking to put into our DA40 if able. 6-pack avionics with the KAP140

does anybody know for sure that it is approved for use in the DA40?

do you know who that was that installed the GDC31? we have a spare one now and i have a crazy quote for install, thought it would be pretty straightforward

It was super long ago and might even precede the existence of this forum. Finding a place to put the box isn’t exactly trivial. And as small as it is you need to squeeze the switch somewhere on the panel.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the shop has no experience with this, as GPSS capability comes embedded in much more popular upgrade paths. Is the GDC31 even manufactured anymore? Note also every STC for anything I have was provided by the manufacturer and actually authorizes the installation for my specific airframe.
