Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
I upgraded to WAAS last year when the offer from Diamond was first available. No problems with the upgrade and I have been very happy with the decision.
It adds safety and additional functionality to the aircraft.

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
Similar to Matt H: I have sent several emails to Diamond asking to be put on the waiting list for a WAAS upgrade and offering to pay a deposit if required. I finally got a response giving me an “after sales” case number but no other information. Nothing since then. I am interested in but not surprised by the response that Matt H apparently got that they aren’t taking deposits because they aren’t getting GIA63Ws.

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
I just sent an email to Diamond today to explore the possibility and waiting to hear back from them. I have a 2004 40.414 N321CK. Based on cost and downtime I might consider upgrading to WAAS, mainly for future resale. I had the software updated to the current version back in June at Leading Edge Avionics when one of the AHRS units was replaced. It seems that the main advantage is the LPV approaches which I can probably live without given the availability of ILS approaches in the US. All that being said I might do it if Diamond gets back to me.

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
Availability of ILS approaches is not identical to the number of published ILS approaches. Right here there is only one ILS approach within 100 miles. And it is non-uncommonly out-of-service.
A suspect consideration is that most ILS approaches now have an overlay LPV. I suspect that urgency of repair of ILS approaches having problems may not be getting the urgency of return-to-service one would hope for.
And yet another fact? With WAAS you will get pseudo-glidelope for pretty much all RNAV approaches in the US. These are more useful than you might think.

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
I'll add that I feel my KAP 140 tracks the LPV better than the ILS.

If Garmin and Diamond don't hurry, people are just going to suction-cup a pair of iPads with ForeFlight on their PFD/MFDs and call it a day. ;-)

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
Hi Bryan,
I'm curious why your plane is not equipped with WAAS with a SN of 890? I have SN 868 and mine has WAAS. I thought WAAS came standard with all 2008 and newer aircraft. Was it actually an extra option in 2008?

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand
I put our club's 40 on the waitlist back in March. At the time they were out of 63Ws. I have emailed them a few times to see where we were at but every time it was <crickets>.
