I'm thinking about it for 2022. Very keen to have a flight to Iceland and Greenland, so why not go the whole way across. How do you deal with insurance at the USA end for a non N-reg aircraft?
insurance should not be a big problem.. either for free.. or a few hundred Euro's... applies also for N registrated
Which company do you know can do cheap insurance for Atlantic crossings? I’ve been quoted very high amounts.

More like a few thousand. I did two round trip crossings in my SR22 in 2018 and 2019. Both were insured at a cost of $3000. That’s in addition to the base premium for US coverage, also about $3k.

That said, the trips were totally worth it. Adventure of a lifetime, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen the ice cap from the air. Can’t wait to do my RTW trip in 2022.

Could potentially be because of the higher liability requirements for base insurance in Europe. Here in the US, standard insurance is 1M liability / 100k per passenger. By including a flight to Europe, you have to increase liability coverage significantly due to mandatory insurance, around $4M I believe. Going from Europe to the US, this isn’t an issue.

One thing I’ll add for others thinking about a similar trip is that the insurance is minimal compared to other costs:

A good survival suit, don’t even think about renting a Gumby - $2k per pax
A good raft $4k
Satphone $1k
Underwater egress course $1k per pax

Not including miscellaneous items like PLB, life vests, survival equipment, etc.

Crossing the pond is NOT a time to cheap out on safety equipment. Search and rescue is likely a day away, maybe more, if they know exactly where you are.
