Color Me Blue

Post by Colin »

I was cruising along into Known Icing Conditions and I hit the switch. The pumps buzzed, the light lit, and the fluid level dropping. I did get a "LOW PRSR FIKI" warning (or whatever it is), but I seem to always get there for a little bit. I squinted out there on the wings, but at 5pm it was sort of grey inside the cloud and there was some precip hitting the wings to begin with. So I can't say that I *confirmed* the fluid was spreading over the wings.

I had outs. I always have outs.

But I started to wonder. Why don't I squeeze a bottle of blue food coloring into the FIKI tank. Has anyone thought of that? The stuff is so harmless you can eat it, so it certainly shouldn't stain the paint or gum anything up.

Thoughts?

its a good idea the only thing is that you will have to clean it after every use/checking the system, hussel!

Just to make sure, I guess it won't harm to ask the TKS system manufacturer.
But really I would not worry too much whether the system really squirts out fuel everywhere, PROVIDED you prime it every month.

Having in mind the diameter of the holes in TKS panels, I would be hesitant to put anything in liquid that can form deposits.
