Air taxi with DA42 in North America?

Post by Aart »

There is at least one operator doing that in Europe. Does anyone know if there are any in North America?

Not that I have seen. I did see an SR-22 in Syracuse, NY and it was apparently an air taxis operation.

I think a DA62 would be awesome for that, although I would want a custom step made to get on and off the wing. It would fold and fit in the nose luggage area, somehow clip to the plane so that it was really sturdy and secure (or, I guess, it could have a wide stance on the asphalt). But helping Angel Flight passengers in and out of my DA42 with a small aluminum step made me think of it.

And there was a company in Harrisburg, PA doing this with a DA42, but they upgraded to a DA62.

Colin, I would really like see a pic. of the step. I use a two step step ladder for my wife who has bad knees and hips. She rides in the back because it is easier for her to enter and egress. Thanks

That's the same ladder that I use. Compact & study, although the hard plastic feet can be slippery on smooth concrete.

The step everyone is referencing is the perfect height - halfway from the ground to the aircraft step.

Yes, the height is good. I would like a bigger spot for the person's feet and a way to secure it to the plane. When I am helping someone aboard who is infirm it I wish it were as sturdy feeling as the step. And, obviously, I'd like a bigger place for someone to put their foot at the step, too. I am often guiding their foot to that with my hand.

If we put Phillip Starck on this it could be beautiful. Actually, we should just get Antoine interested. It's more fun than a nosewheel by a long shot.
