Post by cptndavid »

I just saw he canopy tablet mount on the Tech Pub message OSB42-128. Has anyone installed this mod and if so what is the cost of the parts?

I'm curious, too. It isn't the most polished looking install, but I'd welcome a sturdier mount than suction cups.

I'd want a rigid way to mount a stratus as well.

I mounted my Stratus to the ceiling using a longer version of a headliner screw and the supplied stratus mount. AHARS works and it's been up there for several years now so I think it's durable. GPS and ADS-B reception is good.

I mounted mine on the carpet in the luggage area, which was near the power ports I had installed. I think it is technically mounted to the luggage trap door, velcro onto the carpet. Very solid, though.

With the Stratus 2 mounted on the roof the unit would be upside down and the sin. vis. will appear inverted and at an angle on the tablet, at an angle. Has anyone found the cost of parts for the tablet mount.

Not a problem. Foreflight has adjustments to correct for this.

With Stratus in its desired position and Foreflight running:

1. Bring up the AHRS display.
2. Select the "gear" symbol. A list of info about the AHRS appears.
3. Select the "Calibrate" link at upper right.
4. Hit the "Zero Pitch & Bank" in the middle of the screen. The display will erect.
5. Hit "Save" in the upper left.

If you did this on the ground, in flight you'll probably want to go back in and fine-tune the pitch using the up/down arrows on this same calibrate screen and "Save", as the neutral pitch in flight is likely to be somewhat different than the pitch angle sitting on the ground. This might even be true of the bank angle, if your plane isn't laterally level where it was parked.

You can run through this procedure sitting at your desk for practice. I set my Stratus upside-down on my desk to check this out.
