ADSB out

Post by cptndavid »

I was just informed that the G.D.L. 82 A D S B out unit will not work with Mode S transponders. So much for an" inexpensive" A D S B solution.

I am not sure, if that helps you with an FAA aircraft, but I am now getting a software upgrade for my GTX33 that gets me 1090 MHz ADS-B out with diversity. That is by far the cheapest option for me. I do have a WAAS equipped aircraft, though.

You can add "ES" to an existing GTX33 transponder from your G1000 to get ADS-B Out (no ADS-B IN) for $1500. I actually did this to my DA42-VI a few years ago (before the GTX345R came out).

However, this ES upgrade only works for WAAS-equipped G1000 aircraft, and requires G1000 software at an appropriate release that permits the ADS-B transponder to make use of the plane's WAAS position source. While this works for DA42NG and -VI aircraft, available G1000 software for the DA40-180 is too old.
