For the last couple of flights, my Kap 140 autopilot has shut off during climb out. Both times I turned it back on and it shut down again. Usually on the 4th time it finally stays on and works correctly. Any ideas?

I am liking your KAP140 installation less and less with every reported flight.

Re: Kap 140 shutting off when cold
How cold is "cold"? Our DA42 (it has a KAP140 also) flew a lot in this Michigan winter and it was COLD - a couple of times the outside temp at startup and throughout the flight was 5 deg F or less. Fourtunately, it started out in a "heated" (30-35 deg) hangar but was exposed to the cold outside WX for a few hours each time.
Looking!

You can make up a cable and pull the fault codes with your laptop. Your avionics shop should already have a cable to do it. Very easy. The instructions are in the install manual that you should be able to google and download.
Mine had a bad AP disconnect switch. Turns out all the power goes through those switches and they can fail intermittently.

I have routinely flown with the KAP 140 below 20°F this winter and last with no problems (knock knock). I think your problem lies elsewhere.

Good advice. I'll forward this info to my shop. AP disconnect switch makes sense.Lance Murray wrote:You can make up a cable and pull the fault codes with your laptop.
