Sun reflector / heat shield

Post by meowmeow »

Hi, I'm looking for a simple windshield sun reflector / heat shield just like the ones there are for cars parked in the sun so as for the plane to not become a sauna and also protect the avionics when parked outside (my only option, unfortunately) - is there one that fits the DA 42 (2006 model) well? I looked around on the web but couldn't find one.
If you found a good workaround I'll be happy to learn from you!

Thx! Sven / N919ES

How about a Bruce’s cover? That’s what I use when traveling.

DA40 and DA42 canopies are the same, as far as I can tell. I have yet to see a custom sun cover, I see people using one made for cars and just wrapping it around the curve. I worry about the heat buildup between the reflective surface and the plexiglas.

I use a Bruce's cover.

A friend of mine in Thailand buys domestic heat proofing materials and simply cuts it to fit.
Cheap, light weight and apparently effective.

(The set from Kennon isn't on their website. It looks like the same material in the post by Karl. It cost $225, free shipping.)

Thanks but for the DA42 they only have exterior covers (I may get one of those down the road for winter, but right now I'm just looking for sun/heat reflectors for the inside).

I've contacted them to check on unadvertised specials... thanks for the tip!

"Thank you for contacting Kennon Products. Unfortunately, we do not manufacture sun shields for that particular aircraft. We did at one time, but had multiple fit issues."

I think I'll try to make my own using http://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/heat-s ... -yard.html - if/when that is done I'll be happy to photo-report on my experience with it...

Odd. When I wrote to Kennon the person who wrote back said they could sell it to me for the $225 price even though it wasn't pictured on the site.
