Thanks everyone, as my experience so far Diamond Customer Service has been "lacking". As to the insurance claim, if they don't cover it, I would but.... I'm so low time insurance was difficult to get to begin with so I'm not going to file it. I'm in TX. Let you know how this turns out. So far, plane has not moved and won't until there is a "plan". Thanks!

Update: All Diamond will do is to give me a 15% discount on a new canopy. It's been drilled now so I can fly again. Checking with local windshield (lear and cessna) place to see if they think they can repair it. It's just an unknown how well the repair will work out.

I just noticed your plane is a 2018. Is it still under warranty? Did the canopy crack when you were closing the hinged window?

Yes under warranty. No. I pressed on it leaning into the canopy trying to get a cover on in a high wind. It bubbled in and then popped back out and cracked.

Got it. I thought you might have had a thin spot when they were hand forming your canopy over the mold. Sorry to hear your troubles with your new aircraft.

Still no luck so far finding someone willing to fix the canopy. The local folks don't want to touch it because they don't know how it will come out. It's in a non-critical place so fixing is way better than the estimated $14K to replace. Anybody know any shops that have experience in plexiglass repair?

I would try SouthTec Aviation (Glenn Lawler's shop) at KRUQ in Salisbury, NC. They are not only Diamond maintenance/repair specialists, but have their own paint shop and do lots of composite repairs.

There was a similar crack in the canopy of my DA20-C1. It was repaired long before I bought the plane. The repair is not beautiful, but it was rock solid. According to the logbooks the repair was done by AirService LLC in Montgmery, NY. That company now appears to be called Take Flight Aviation.

Update: Still flying plane with cracked "drilled" canopy. Had to order a new one which will come in sometime in March. Crack was too far from edge to qualify for a repair.
