Hello,
I have noticed that whenever I encounter (moderate) icing a sort of rumbling noise appear on my DA42 tdi and on another similar DA42.
I see no other abnormal indications beside the slight IAS loss due to the icing.
Any idea of the cause of the noise ?
Thank you !
Salim

Same here. I guess the pieces of ice just stuck in air inlet.salim wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 5:13 pm Hello,

Re: Noise in icing
I've heard/felt it too. Occasionally, the cabin air inlet plugs up somewhere with ice creating suction/buffeting sound from the cabin vents. A few pats on the vent with the hand can open it up. Just be prepared to be shot with ice pellets when it unclogs. I have a video of it somewhere. I'll try to dig it up

Re: Noise in icing
Same here! And I have a 2004 DA40. Twice I’ve had to descend through a layer of icing building up moderate clear icing on the leading edges and the prop, and both times the suction/buffeting sound occurred in the cabin. I assumed the icing buildup was occurring in the NACA air inlet under the wing.

Sorry for the dumb laughing, but you can see the flow of air switching back and forth with the towel held up in front of the vent.
