Flaps and crosswind landings in the DA42

Post by baldesk »

Pilot training generally teaches us to land with partial flaps in strong crosswind scenarios to improve control authority and minimize the impact of gusts. During a recent 18K knot crosswind training exercise I found the DA42 to be fully controllable and more tame with full flaps than with partial flaps. I tend to land with a little extra airspeed so I recognize the excessive float potential with partial flaps is working against me in the DA42, however landing with full flaps in this situation felt remarkably more stable to me. Are others having similar experiences?

I always land with full flaps. Up to max demonstrated crosswind.
