Hi Guys
Am thinking of getting the new 155 engines. They are asking for a 'core charge' which gets refunded but my engines have over half the life left and are the 125-02-99's. Seems there would be a market there or opportunity to get an used one near limits and buy it and put the newer engines in it then sell it?
Anybody have any wisdom around that?
Thanks Hap

Re: Engine upgrades
If I understand you correctly, you want:
1. To buy pair of CD155 without sending back your old engines to Continental and upgrade your DA42.
2. Then to buy DA42 with engines close to TBR.
3. And then to put your old engines into that DA42 and sell it with some 1000 hours available before engines are TBR.
I don't think you can gain or save anything in this scenario. It's simply too much hassle and engaging too much funds with non-predictable result. The price difference between DA42 with engines close to TBR and the one with engines 1000 hours to TBR is probably less than 40k. But if you can save on labor, find cheap airframe and have known buyer then it might be worth of effort.

Re: Engine upgrades
Thanks Emir
Currently have 1/2 time engines and want to upgrade to the 155's. Think half time engines should be worth more than the 10K core charge offered by Mfgr? Options seem to be sell engines to someone who wants 1000 more hours who are near replacement or buy a plane in that condition and refit myself. Seems more like 20K on the table there?

Re: Engine upgrades
Yes, those are the options but it's not easy to say if you can get 20k out of it. I would establish close contact with some maintenance shop which performs Thielert/CD engines replacements and check with them if there's any interest for half time engines. When I was buying my DA42 (second hand) I had the opportunity to chose between the one at 750 hours and the one at 1100 hours (the price difference was some 50k but the first one was GFC700 equipped). I purposely chose the second one because of planned CD155 upgrade.
