Re: DA42 Down in Ohio
Right. I thought if there had been a misfueling or something else obvious, there might have been something mentioned in the Preliminary Report. I guess we'll need to wait to the Final.

Same aircraft, presumably the same operator, similar incidents. 2007 model with Thielert engines. Hard to draw any definitive conclusions but agree that maintenance could easily be a factor.

Re: DA42 Down in Ohio
I thought that the operator already talked about turbo hoses coming loose or something similar.

Re: DA42 Down in Ohio
I looked back at the FB thread. The operator did state that the NTSB/FAA immediately checked fuel in the aircraft and the fuel source and ruled out fuel issues. Not an official statement of course but seems credible.

Re: DA42 Down in Ohio
That's terrible luck/bad form if both sides weren't tight.
I've had an engine rollback from a bad new wastegate (rendering it naturally aspirated). Wondering if that could be the case. Easy to see from ECU logs with commanded vs produced power.

Re: DA42 Down in Ohio
I believe that they both went bad moments apart and my guess is that if the mechanic didn't know how to attach it properly he didn't attach it properly on BOTH sides.
I would think a flights school would always test fly an airplane at least once in the pattern after maintenance, but apparently not.

Re: DA42 Down in Ohio
Reminds me of an interesting practice in twin engine ETOPS airliners. Usually, two separate master mechanics finalize and button up each engine after maintenance separately to minimize the chance of the same mistake happening twice
