Airventure / Oshkosh 2022 .. who plans to fly in from Europe?
Well... in 2013 I had the fantastic opportunity to fly with a DA42 from Europe to Oshkosh.. a fantastic experience that led to several further transatlantic crosses..
I decided that 2022 is a good year to do it again.. we will fly in with two planes from Europe (DA42 TDI + Piper Malibu). Departure in Germany will be on July24th 2022.. Classical routing via Iceland and Greendland.
anybody else planning to fly to Airventure next year?

A bit far for me and it has always looked too complicated from logistics point of view.
How many legs will you have for crossing and how many in total?

It‘s really not that bad. Weather allowing you can do Oshkosh from central Germany in six legs (Germany, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, Goose Bay, Quebec, Oshkosh) of which you can pack two into some days. With the notable exception of entering the U.S. logistics are not particularly bad either.

I have done it with a friend a number of times.. all in all it is not too difficult...
- at the end you stop in Scotland and Iceland. Then there are 3 airports in Greenland and 2 airports in Canada where you typically go through.. has been done many times before.. one can leverage the experience
- technicalities are also easy.. no problem to rent raft and survival gear..
- no HF needed...
- Insurance typically not too bad
- you need a subscription for NAV / IFR.. foreflight comes to mind
- but you need to spend some time and understand where to get weather information and how to take decisions
- the arrival in oshkosh is a tricky part.. lots of metal in the air.. but if you follow the flow it is doable as well
all in all its a clear "bucketlist" item...
as mentioned.. next year we will be a group of two planes (DA42 + Piper malibu).. if you want to join the small group.. or leverage experiences.. PM me..

I'm thinking about it for 2022. Very keen to have a flight to Iceland and Greenland, so why not go the whole way across. How do you deal with insurance at the USA end for a non N-reg aircraft?

insurance should not be a big problem.. either for free.. or a few hundred Euro's... applies also for N registrated
