Low flow from TKS system in DA42
I'm posting this here in case anyone else has a similar problem. I was having an issue where the de-ice system pumps appeared to be working, but the would take a long time and wouldn't cover the entirety of the wing (it mostly just came out near the stall tab and the middle of the wing). I cleaned the surfaces thoroughly, ran on max, etc. but nothing seemed to work. Eventually, I spoke to another pilot who recommended changing the filters for the TKS system. This immediately solved the problem, but unfortunately it was not cheap. Hopefully this helps you if you were having a similar problem.

Re: Low flow from TKS system in DA42
I have exactly the problem described by Benjamin with my DA42-VI (2015): the wings do not get wet evenly. Also, I often get the warning message “DEIC PRES HI” after a few minutes of operation. And indeed, the maintenance manual for this message says: “Replace Filter(s)”.
The note “not cheap” sounds relatively relaxed at first, but the two filters cost almost 5,000 euros / US dollars as official Diamond spare parts.

Re: Low flow from TKS system in DA42
But replacing filters is much cheaper compared to replacing the panels (about 5k each panel - 2 panels each wing)
The thing is, use the TKS as regular as possible. Biweekly at least. This will prevent to change anything besides the fluid.
And use the correct fluid! I know that the system would also work with water, but not long.
I have operated a DA42-VI for about 10 years now, never had an issue with TKS but "burnt" a lot of fluid of course. Use this system! It´s like your wife, if you don't treat her well someday she might be gone or useless

I've never seen DEIC PRES HI, if anything it's always LOa.s. wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 8:49 am I have exactly the problem described by Benjamin with my DA42-VI (2015): the wings do not get wet evenly. Filters for 5K that sounds completely insane - what are they made of, gold..?
