Due to an impending relocation to the sourth of France, I've decied to part with my DA42NG. It has done a terrific job of hauling my wife and me (and our K9 companion, Kate) around the US for the past 4-1/2 years.

You could pay twice as much for a newer -VI that will get you to your destination a couple of minutes faster with NXi graphics, but this has been a great flying machine for us. I can't justify spending the 20% VAT to import it to Europe. With 600 hours left before TBR on the engines, Austro should have enough time to prove that they have their production issues under control before you're due for an exchange.
For more information, hit me up via PM or at chrisj [at] diamondflight.com. I'll post more photos when I get back to the hangar.
I Think if you are timing the import of the DA42 together with your relocating to France, you don't have to pay the 20% VAT, (works in Switzerland) but probably you need to bring the Diamond the EASA-Environment, this could be done in every EASA country. Maybe as an US citizen you could possibly you fly it with a N number. It is worth to check that.

I've been trying to get to the bottom of that possibility for a while now, but I've found it difficult to locate experts in importing private aircraft to France while establishing residency. Reading the French customs guidelines, it seems like it should be possible, but there are also exclusions for some categories. I'm pretty sure I could keep the N-registration as a US citizen.
If you can swing it, I highly recommend bringing your aircraft with you to Europe. There are so many amazing destinations just a few hours away. Italy, Spain, Greece, and the UK are a nonstop distance away. And you have a great maintenance facility at EDFE nearby.
