The automatic VOR ID feature was not working for me with the PYE and SAU VOR-DMEs in northern California on my WAAS-equipped G1000 the other day, yet the needles pointed to the right spots.

On this thread, @linzhiming mentioned that the G1000 actively listens to the morse code. While listening to the PYE VOR I could definitely hear a bit of static and there were a lot of overlayed verbal instructions (I presume to airliners) on the frequency. I've got the latest DBs installed, and tried PYE on NAV1 and SAU on NAV2. I'm curious what troubleshooting tips folks here use to verify if this is a ground or airplane issue. Is automatic ID a configurable feature that might have gotten turned off? Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Were the overlayed verbal instructions a recording or active conversations? Were the instructions literally overlaying the morse code, or did the code stop, instructions started, instructions stop, code burst, etc.?

Russ, for PYE I recall them being overlayed a bit. It was one of those scenic VFR flights over the GGB (you know all too well) where I was looking outside and not fiddling too much with the fancy gadgets or troubleshooting. ;-) I'll be going up this weekend with a CFI to check it out again. Will report back.
