I actually looked into the experimental thing. Without the time for a discussion it is not really a viable option. You will have to go to the FAA every year or so to prove that you need to remain in experimental category to continue your research and development.

Now RESTRICTED category may be some type of option. I haven't looked into that yet. I knew a guy that had a Cessna 150 in RESTRICTED category due to an additional fuel tank installed for fish spotting.

I bought the airplane and put it back to normal category.

Based on my current flying rate I've got about 14 years to contemplate what to do at TBO. I am hoping that by then a Lycoming iE2 replacement for the 4 banger 360-390 line will be an industry standard.
