DA42 from Germany to Oshkosh
Just one more week to go.. then we start our trip from Germany (www.edmq.de) to Oshkosh, with our recently acquired DA42 2.0 Thielert. Looking forward to meet lots of new Diamond friends and see latest Diesel developements... We hope for moderate headwinds and only little ice...
We are accompanied by our good friend Franz, flying a Bonanza V-Tail. Payload in the V-Tail is much better then in our DA42.. hence Franz is carrying the beer...

Re: DA42 from Germany to Oshkosh
Hans, this sounds like a fantastic trip.
I plan to do a transatlantic crossing myself one day.
Having researched this a bit, looks like the biggest flight planning barrier (apart from bad weather) is actually getting mandatory insurance for Iceland, Greenland & Canada...

Re: DA42 from Germany to Oshkosh
Hans,
I am only a couple of hours (flying time) from Oshkosh. Let me know if you want to stop here on your way there. I certainly can help relieve some of the weight problems (like drinking your beer), but you will likely need to save that for the very hot days at Oshkosh Our little airport is always very accommodating to travelers.

Re: DA42 from Germany to Oshkosh
So you may fly over there with Thielert engines and fly back with brand X engines, if the rumors are correct!
That may mean an instant raise in the value of the plane, so the trip will not cost you anything!

Many thx to all of you... Just put the plane to wiener neustadt to do a 100 check. Also had problems with the left main gear this week... Better get it fix now, then having a problem in Greenland (:-)... Hope the weather stays as it is today.. No cloud between Germany and Canada! Still lots of things to do I the remaining days....
Would be great to see thielert under new ownership!!!!!
