Looks like the same aircraft had a forced landing last May as well...

We are out in AZ at my father-in-law's. Everyone was calling and texting thinking that it might be me...

Not the same aircraft. Different N-numbers. But the same type and the same flight school. Both are NGs.

My mistake. I was confused with another incident in December; same school, same area, also a NG.

3 DA40 crashes / forced landings in less than a year all from one place. Seems unheard of. Does anyone have insight as to why?

Just a guess but possibly a factor in these forced landings: Some European DA40 NGs had inadvertent engine shutdowns because it was determined that student pilots accidentally switched off the Engine Master when they had intended to switch on/off the Austro's backup electric fuel pump. Backup fuel pumps have to be switched off after takeoff, and back on before landing. Both switches use the same type of silver lever that requires pulling out as well as up/down, and the two switches were located right next to each other in the panel.

My understanding is that the electric fuel pump switch has been relocated on newer DA40 NGs to address this issue. (Austro DA42/DA62 aircraft use completely different white plastic rocker switches for backup electric fuel pumps, so there's no potential for confusion.)

Every time this topic is brought up I get all wound up. I hope the idiot who designed this masterpiece has also been "relocated".

It looks like the one in December was a result of something causing the engine to to pump all its oil overboard. Nothing on the other 2 yet.
