Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
Thanks Robert! I'll call Garmin Tech. Support next week to see if they will convert this PDF file into the format they use for Garmin Pilot. This will save all of us who fly use this App a lot of data entry time. Not surprising that Garmin already has a downloadable template for the DA-40, as well as a few other more commonly produced aircraft.

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
Hi Scott!
Great to hear. Could use that to. It's probably easier to use the electronic checklist => http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin ... hklist.ace.
You can open the file with any text editor. It contains the pure text with 2 control characters in front of each line. Probably easier to convert.

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
Appreciate the link very much Robert! I was unaware of this page on the Diamond Website until you kindly brought it to my attention. Will have to experiment with this file a little more when time allows as it did not convert as I had hoped when using microsoft notepad.
I assume you are using this on an ipad and I'd be curious to know which app you are running it on? Also, which text editor did you use for customizing the checklist?

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
Hi Scott!
MS Notepad works fine. However you have to open it from Notepad with the open file dialog and you have to select "All files" instead of .txt files. Alternatively you can rename checklist.ace into checklist.txt and then open it with a double-click.

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
Scott,
I don't use Garmin Pilot but if it uses *.ace checklists, you should be able to use the Garmin checklist editor. It's a little more user friendly than notepad. I've used this to successfully edit the checklist files used on the G1000 and it displays exactly how they will look on the G1000.

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
I prefer a hard-card checklist. I can move through it more efficiently.
I did not like the one supplied with the aircraft, so pretty much cut and pasted from the AFM, keeping the numbering, but changing the verbiage a bit to read as challenge and response. Repetitive, redundant items are greyed out and can be skipped for efficiency. Items that begin with zero, or a letter tailor the checklist to my way of doing things. Note the use of the "GFLAP" acronym to replace "GUMPS".
Recommend you specify the thinner laminate at your local office supply store. I made 2.
Both Word and PDF versions for you to customize to your liking:

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
I once had a ramp-check at the Eros airport in Windhoek, Namibia by two ICAO officials from Australia. One of their findings was that my checklist (C182) was not stamped as to confirm that it complied with the checklist in the POH. Since then I assume you are not supposed to modify a checklist. However, I noted that many flying clubs and also individuals change checklists. Anyone here knows what the rules are in this case?

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist
Any checklist is simply a reference. The AFM (POH) is the defining document.
Diamond's own checklist begins with the very clear disclaimer:

advisory bodies.
This checklist may not contain all procedures shown in the Airplane Flight Manual. For a
comprehensive listing of all procedures consult the Airplane Flight Manual.
Use of the checklist is at the user's sole risk and discretion.
