Hey Folks. New to the site. But I just completed the install of my Garmin remote 345 transponder. I have a 2004 DA40 with WAAS on my G1000. The installation would have taken only 4-5 days, but I had a problem with my displays that you won't have. Anyhow, costs around $9,000-9,500. But I'm very happy with the result. Flew it last night and was AMAZED at all the traffic that I've been missing out there! Yes, I had TIS with the older transponder, but was so surprised how much I wasn't seeing. And yes, I get the ADS-B weather, but I prefer to pay for the XM, as I find it superior.

Did you add the WAAS (GIA-63W's)? I didn't think they came with 2004 G1000's. If so, who installed them? Cost?

I did the GIA-63W upgrade with my older DA-40 (40.388, just a few after TJP's) and it was hideously expensive. Would not do it again, I'm afraid ...

Theodore,

Welcome to the site!

Sounds like I'm in the same "plane" as you. I have a 2004 (40.428) that I upgraded to WAAS (GIA-63W's). Did you have to buy an additional WAAS antenna or does the 345 get its position data from the WAAS GIA's? Is the ADSB WX displayed on the MFD or do you have to use another device to see it? What SW version do you have?

Thanks,
Brian

Where did you do your install? I noticed you are out of Dayton and I’m not terribly far from there.

Sandy, did you find a local Atlanta avionics shop to do your 345R install?
