I've been watching this series of videos -- very nice video production quality, although occasionally the music makes it hard to understand pilot communications. It brings back memories of my ferry flight across the pond, bringing the first DA42-VI to North America in 2013:

The only difference (so far) is that they stopped for fuel in Denmark, whereas our DA42-VI was able to fly non-stop from Wiener Neustadt to Wick, Scotland (6 hours, 23 minutes!). It also looks like they may have landed somewhere else in Greenland -- we'll have to wait for the next video to find out.

I have also enjoyed this series of videos, although I am biased as I was one of the pilots in the second airplane :-)

I was lucky enough to fly over to Austria and pick up our DA62 and tag along on the flight home. We do land in Greenland and in over 20 years of flying, I encountered something I had never had to deal with before. We were grounded upon landing due to a NOTAM from the Danish Transport, Housing and Construction Authority (I did not make that up) that restricted movements on that field to 2 aircraft per hour. I don't think I need to tell you that there are not a great deal of aircraft in Greenland, I flew across the entire country, didn't see a single one, so the 2 per hour thing was, well a bit of a head scratcher. It delays us for a bit in Greenland, but we were able to make it work.

There was some air to air photos just before we land in Sondrestrom, which should be cool to see in the next video. We then head to Iqualuit in my home country of Canada :-)

It was an wonderful experience and I learned a great deal.

Hi Braden,

What a wonderful experience indeed. Truly a trip to remember and also get used to your very own DA62 enroute at the same time. It’s an absolutely amazing plane, so many congratulations!

At the end of this month, I will undertake a short ferry trip by comparison from Wiener Neustadt (LOAN) to Siegerland (EDGS) for formal registration of 62.115 and, thereafter, fly down to Speyer (EDRY) which will be my home base for D-INDC, a very modern fabulous aerodrome with newly built heated hanger.

Looking forward to the next video!

We upgraded from a DA42-VI, so the 62 was very similar. The additional width was very welcome after 28 hours of flying with two guys, that is for sure!

Both airplanes flew very nicely, no mechanical issues during the trip and the weather was pretty good except for the last stop we made, near James Bay where we had some adverse weather but the TKS systems worked well both inbound and outbound the following morning.

The 62 is a very stable airframe and a joy to fly.

You will certainly never forget that experience Braden.

We really have to hand it to David Bausek who designed the DA62 at such a young age.

That was a pretty cool leg, lots of icebergs on the east coast of Greenland. The Diamond guys used their own oxygen even though both machines had factory oxygen systems installed. They prefer to use a portable bottle and the mountain sky system. I assume that this is because it’s part of their ferry “kit”, so they don’t have to worry about taking a machine that doesn’t have a factory system, they know that they always have oxygen on board.

I used the factory system in my plane and it worked like a dream.

Anyone else notice they flew Iceland to Greenland with pitot heat turned off?

Also there didn’t used to be VHF radio coverage on the east coast of Greenland so we had to rig up an HF radio in my DA42. (Also I was told Canada wouldn’t let you enter their oceanic airspace without an HF radio 5 years ago.)
