John Weber

Post by cptndavid »

For those of you who do not know John Weber is alive and well and living in Texas. He is able to assist us with our engine problems.John's email is jweber2c57@gmail.com. We as owner/pilots should encourage him to start a consulting firm to help us understand and operate our engines to the most reliable standard.

I get the sense I should know who he is, but will ask the stupid question: what's his background or who is he?

He was the Technify Motors engine class teacher for Continental for about 12 plus years. He is the only person in the U.S. who does this. He is no longer with Conti. If you want to know about your 1.7 or 2.0 he is the man.

It is with a great deal of enthusiasm I would like to echo David's posting! As it was such a relief to hear word from John the other day - while soaking up his happy and upbeat voice once again, as his shared his recent news and never-ending wealth of technical information.

Just like David, John and I spoke at length about ways he might continue to serve the diesel engine fleet, as he still speaks very highly of Continental products.

The big take away from all of this is that John is considering starting up his own independent business that might include:

- over the phone troubleshooting consultations for an annual subscription, with office hours conducive to owners in North America.

- hands on training classes at various locations throughout the country. There might be two levels of classes here – one for owner / pilots and the other for re-certifying A&P / IA's. I suggested he even consider periodically conducting live webinars.

So please join me in nudging John out of retirement by starting such an endeavor – as there is no doubt whatsoever CD owners will benefit greatly from such a venture coming to fruition.

For those of you flying behind Austro engines, he might, in time, even be able to expand his expertise to include support and training for these owners as well.

Silly question, this is for all Continental engines, not just diesel correct?

What's that old adage Tom "there is no such thing as a silly question"?

For air-cooled, Avgas powered engines, others and myself might steer you more towards Mike Busch and his company:

https://www.savvyaviation.com/

Also, his books on aircraft maintenance and engines are highly regarded and readily available on amazon, such as:

https://www.amazon.com/Manifesto-Revolu ... 1500209635

In speaking with John Weber on your behalf this evening, he recommended the following contacts at Continental for specific questions regarding their Avgas engines:

Ron Humphrey, Pat Pierce or Tim Owens

Back to John Weber, he certainly is well versed in Avgas engines - yet for the past 12 years his expertise and focus has been almost exclusively on diesel powered continental engines (CD-135's, CD-155's and the like).

For those who are unfamiliar and wishing to know more about John, here is his bio:

FAA Private Pilot Rating 1979.

Associates Degree in Aviation Maintenance from Texas State Technical College 1983.

FAA Airframe and Powerplant Rating 1983.

FAA Inspection Authorization 1986 (currently inactive).

36 years experience in General Aviation as an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic.

Ran the North American operation for Thielert Aircraft Engines from 2007 through 2013. Thielert Diesel Instructor from 2009 through 2013.

Product Support Engineer and Continental Diesel Instructor for Continental Motors from 2013 through 2019, specializing in the diesel engine program, Centurion 1.7 and CD-135/2.0 and CD-155/2.0S
