My ADS-B install
So, while the airplane is down for the engine:

I am proceeding with my ADS-B out install. I decided on the GDL-82. Main reason was that my transponder is working well, and I don't have a WAAS GPS in the airplane. First step was accomplished during the last Annual while the interior was out. I ran the coax cable for the GPS antenna. I didn't want to add an additional antenna, so I went with the Comant combination GPS/VHF antenna. There is a Diamond SB for how to install it, and I accomplished that over the last 2 days. Old COM1 antenna removed Old COM1 antenna doubler removed New fiberglas doubler epoxied in place Doubler after epoxy cured

Re: My ADS-B install
I like the way it looks, but it was a pricey part! Next, I'll be mounting the GDL-82 box under the pilot seat. More photos to follow...

Re: My ADS-B install
Interesting.. I have a DA-20 and had a GDL-82 installed as well but did not have to add an antenna

Re: My ADS-B install
You must have a WAAS GPS installed. I don’t have one, just an old reliable KLN-94.

Re: My ADS-B install
The other possibility is that you are driving a non-WAAS GPS and your GDL-82 from a single GPS antenna through a splitter. My avionics guy said that this was a possible way to avoid installing an additional GPS antenna, but I didn't want to do that.

Re: My ADS-B install
I have a 430 non-wass so it must have been the splitter option

Re: My ADS-B install
On mine I have a non-waas 430 that I connected to my transponder anyway.
I nos emit an adsb out that is seen by Flightradar24.
I don’t know if i’m visible by any tower or other airplane that has adsb in.
I think that UL with garmin g3x touch can see me.

Re: My ADS-B install
Finished up today by mounting the GDL-82 box.
So, after I did this, I pulled the airplane out of the hangar, powered it up, and hooked my laptop up to the USB connector to the GDL-82. I routed that connector so that it is next to the pilot's side rear footwell. All you have to do is pull the footwell velcro loose to access it. There is a program called the GDL 8X install tool that you download to your laptop. As soon as I opened it, it detected the GDL-82. I entered a few pieces of information, like my tail number, ICAO address, and distance from the nose of my airplane to the GPS antenna (14 feet in my case).
Everything was green, with no faults, and my ADS-B In on Foreflight showed me active. Of course, I can't do the verification flight, as I am in the process of pulling my engine...

Re: My ADS-B install
So, just to close this chapter...
I finally got to do my ADS-B validation flight today. It was delayed significantly by my engine woes (see: Ruh-Roh thread). So, today I went out to fly in Rules Airspace for about 40 minutes.
My GAIRS report was "All Green" so I submitted the Rebate Request on line this afternoon.
