Uavionics sky beacon ADSB?

Post by soarer20 »

Has anyone installed the Uavionics Sky Beacon? The DA-20 / DA-40 are not on the AML.

Uavionics said something about the white nav light is required, so they chose not to add it to the AML. At night with the strobes on you can't really see a rear facing nav light anyway. Durring the day you can't see the rear nav lights either...

The strobe on my DA-20 sticks out a fair bit. The Uavionics strobe looks like it would have a narrower viewing angle than the factory diamond strobe.

Any thoughts on these concerns? I would prefer to not have to install the GDL-82.

TWO A&P's I spoke to said it not being on the AML is not an issue and it can be installed.

Correct (see: GDL82 AML only has one aircraft)

However there is an actual reason the skyBeacon can’t be installed - it doesn’t have a rear position light, just strobe and nav.

I don't think they need to get together, they just need to see the market in it. I asked them if they had plans to make one with a tail light and they said no - when I asked why they said with the money involved in certification it wasn't economical because the target audience isn't large enough to turn a profit.
