Clamp for exhaust pipe
Just a question about the clamp for exhaust pipe shown as number 110 in the IPC enclosed.
My A&P just told me that they are responsible for leak and that the 16 half clamps + screw, nuts, washers are to change.
Did you ever had this to change ?
If yes, do you have a rough idea of the price?
Thanks !

Arnaud:
From a discussion on the Forum about 8 years ago, I recall that these clamps are made by Acorn Welding. You can check their website for availability and pricing. As I recall, they are sold by the half clamp (that is, you will need 16 to replace all 8 clamps, and that might be prohibitive). I would ask them if it would be possible to replace just the clamp(s) that is/are leaking...

Re: Clamp for exhaust pipe
Never needed to replace - I had replaced a cracked riser - but used old clamp.

Re: Clamp for exhaust pipe
Hi,
I just called them, they were very sympatic and they explained me that they have no stock for that and that diamond only can sell them.
They proposed me some other (that are better) but they are for another airplane.
It seems that the price from Diamond will be very expensive!

I just found them at awi-ami.com. Worked with a nice guy there...$36 each x 8...shipped right away.

Re: Clamp for exhaust pipe
Hello!
I just get the price for the parts and it is roughly 200$ per half clamp, and I have 16 !
I cannot imagine that these parts has to be changed and that I have to pay more than 3200$ for 16 pieces of metal !
Do you have experience with that already ?
The hint that lead my A&P to change them is white traces around some of them (exhaust gaz leak), but does it means that the part has to be changed ?
Is it not possible to « clean » them for the calamine?
More precisely, what make that a leak appears here ?
Are the clamp really the responsible for that?
Thanks for your help.
Arnaud.

Arnaud:
The upper clamp in the photo appears to have a hole in it, where the exhaust is leaking. I don't know why you would have to replace more than that one clamp.

Re: Clamp for exhaust pipe
This picture was taken in october 2018, maybe it is worse now (I didn't visit the A&P since he told me that there is a problem with the clamps)
If you are talking about the "thing" in the circle below, I think it is a stain because I cannot remmeber any hole.
Did you hear someone already that has to change all clamp?
Thank you!!

Re: Clamp for exhaust pipe
No, every clamp like that I have seen has some tan staining around it. If your mech thinks that the leakage is excessive, he could try tightening the clamps a bit. Except for the upper clamp, yours look the same as mine:

Re: Clamp for exhaust pipe
Hi Steve,
Thanks!
My mech told me that there are some "white trace" that show leak??
One question, what can lead someone to think that clamp are to replace? Hole in it yes. Clamp broken, yes. Crack in it, yes. But what else?
My mech told me about "calamine" that can appear (from exhaust gaz) and make this kind of leak, do you have any clue of this?
Thank you!!
Arnaud.
