Mixture level hard to move

Post by astaib »

Hello,

I asked my mechanic to work in my mixture lever because it is very hard to move since it was changed one year ago.

He told me today that he has checked hard he cannot find friction anywhere and that the cable has no high radius curvature.

Do you have any idea of where it can comes from?

Thanks!

Have you tried adjusting the friction control knob? It's down on the right side of the throttle quadrant.

Funny story...I just discovered that knob during my first annual after flying the plane for 3 months...I don't ever sit in that seat!

Mine has been stiff since it was new, and despite thorough lubrication. I've just gotten used to it being that way...

The right kind of stiffness/friction is good in the engine controls. You don't want them drifting. But it's worth tracking down the source of suddenly-increased stiffness. Last year I broke the Bowden cable for the alternate air by not patiently diagnosing just such an occurrence.

Arnaud:

Your airplane is old (excuse me - mature) enough for this Service Bulletin to apply:

Has it been done?

Hi,

The MSB has been performed last year at annual visit, and the lever is more difficult to move since it has been changed...
The friction knob is set to loose.

I agree with you that it is better stiff than loose, if this stiffness is normal, I will accomodate, but I feel it really stiff.
This is not "sudden" this is worse since it has been changed last year.

Arnaud.
