Re: 1.7 Engines
A different CAN-bus cable is needed to diagnose and update Austro engines.
Of course. Thanks for pointing the difference out. I was wondering about the even higher price than the Austro cable.

Re: 1.7 Engines
That sucks on the insurance company. A few years ago, I would have jumped at the chance.cptndavid wrote: Sat Jun 26, 2021 8:59 pm Tim, My insurance company raised my rates by 50% and wants a third class medical. I have been flying on basic med. and will not be going back to special issue medicals, Also my need has changed since the sale of my Florida house. I am going to light sport , a Tecnam p 2008 turbo.
If you need a can cable I have one for sale.
But for now, I am happy with my SR22 partnership, and I am not going anywhere for at least a few years.
Good luck,
Tim

Re: 1.7 Engines
The Tecnam P2010 now offers Continental diesel 1.7 engine with US certification any day now... It's called the P2010 TDI.
Is that 1.7 engine different than the one in this thread?

Re: 1.7 Engines
The Tecnam has a CD-170 engine, which is 2.0 liter

Re: 1.7 Engines
Interesting how the TDI is 170 HP and has the same max cruise speed as the 215 HP avgas engine.FPKONE wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 5:30 am The Tecnam P2010 now offers Continental diesel 1.7 engine with US certification any day now... It's called the P2010 TDI.

Re: 1.7 Engines
The avgas IO-390 engine only makes 215 hp at sea level where the plane has to fly through dense air, losing power as the plane climbs -- compared to the TDI turbodiesel engine that makes 170 hp all the way to 6-8000 feet where there's less drag.TimS wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:30 pmInteresting how the TDI is 170 HP and has the same max cruise speed as the 215 HP avgas engine.

Re: 1.7 Engines
Agree. I just thought it was interesting, since at I have found a few references to 132 at 9K for the TDI, but 135 for the IO-390 at the same altitude.CFIDave wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 1:43 pmThe avgas IO-390 engine only makes 215 hp at sea level where the plane has to fly through dense air, losing power as the plane climbs -- compared to the TDI turbodiesel engine that makes 170 hp all the way to 6-8000 feet where there's less drag.TimS wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 12:30 pmInteresting how the TDI is 170 HP and has the same max cruise speed as the 215 HP avgas engine.
I have not found the actual performance charts for either engine, and I am curious how that all worked out. Especially when you consider the rather different looking cowlings, and cooling methods.

Re: 1.7 Engines
It’s at least triple the price.chili4way wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 12:31 pm I was wondering about the even higher price than the Austro cable.
