Vibration and power pulses

Post by TimS »

Curious (topic came up in another forum). Do the AE engines actually use a single shot of Jet-A into the chamber BTDC, or have they taken a page form the automotive world which does a pilot shot BTDC to ignite the fire, and then provide additional squirts (or a continuous feed) through most of the combustion cycle.
In the automotive world, this is mostly done to reduce NOx; but also has the benefit lowered stress on the engine which means they engine is lighter and has fewer failure points.

The Austro is essentially an automotive engine using specially certified (read: $$$) automotive diesel injectors.
