Looking to purchase a D42 - few questions
I am looking at purchasing a major D42 rebuild of a 2007. Includes new engines, canopy, avionics, interior, ice. Will have 2 year warranty on the engines and 6 months on the air frame. No A/C, no oxygen. I am trying to understand a fair valuation of this aircraft. I live in the south. Is the lack of AC a big deal? What year did they do major upgrades to the D42? How significant were those. Can a 2007 aircraft be painted? Is there a limitation on the airframe time? The market is just so insane right now for all planes. They are asking over $800K one.

This our 2007 DA42. I have not missed having AC. Maybe once or twice on the ground, certainly never at altitude. (Lately, KOWD – CYOW, I have wished for a better heater.)
Why would you paint it? I believe my new stickers were $2,500.
The AP GFC-700 is much more important an upgrade to me than AC.

That seems like a very nicely equipped DA42. Does that include WAAS and ADS-B in/out? If so, it includes all of the must-have features, IMO. I like my built-in O2 system a lot, but I got along fine without one for years using a portable bottle, and in the south you may not need to spend much time at high altitudes.
It is to some people, not so much for others. To make the person who usually sits in the right seat happy, I opted to get my DA42-NG wired/plumbed for a removable A/C unit so I could install it during the summer months and take it out during the winter. I'm happy with it, but it's not something I would want to take in/out of the plane on a daily basis.
Others will surely have a more comprehensive and accurate list, but IMO the big ones were: GFC700 A/P (2008?), Austro Engines (2009?), Aerodynamics and useful load upgrades in the -VI model (2012?), G1000 NXi avionics (2017)What year did they do major upgrades to the D42? How significant were those.
I don't think so. Only the newer model (-VI) can be, I believe. Can a 2007 aircraft be painted?
No lifetime limit on the airframe, AFAIK.Is there a limitation on the airframe time?
That price sounds exhorbitant to me for a 2007 even with new CD-155 engines installed, but who knows these days? It is indeed an insane market. The market is just so insane right now for all planes. They are asking over $800K one.

I would like to purchase a 2017 or later but they are really hard to find.
