Windshield glue failure

Post by Deanrobert »

Anyone one had the windshield on your 62 come loose? Bottom on co pilot side came loose; sucked a checklist that was on the glare shield out of the cockpit..

Yikes! That must have been disconcerting. And noisy.

We had 3 cabin windows starting to come unglued. You could push on the window and make a 1/2" gap.

Curious how the windshield had enough pressure/vacuum to open up a gap in flight!

I'm not surprised. One of the canopy latches on my Star had a tendency to come undone and the canopy would pop up on that side, flexing considerably. You could not push the canopy back down in flight when that happened. (This was fixed in '04).

Our windshield was replaced by a service center in california, when the plane came over from Austria, because of some scratches . The noise wasn't much, just the surprise of the check list card slipping out under the windshield. The pressure issue is strange to us too... we are not aeronautical engineers, but thinking that the air flow over the bottom of the windshield swirls up and creates a low pressure there?? Again, it wasn't pulled away from the fuselage much... but still a bit disconcerting. Diamond tech people believe the replacement wasn't done correctly (da). But so far they have been very responsive to working on the resolve.

If it's on the side isn't this classic bernoulli? Same thing that makes a tornado pull windows outward. I'm having trouble visualizing where the window is gapping.

It’s on the bottom co pilot side; then when pressed on from the inside , along the bottom to the middle of the windshield.
Factory tech finally coming to SPI next week to replace
