Heh, I took some liberties with my explanation perhaps. They discovered that the valve wasn't just preventing fuel from going left-to-right as documented, but also that it was involved in preventing right-to-left transfers without suction.

But, yes, you called it.

It’s obvious from the diagram as a spring-loaded check valve. And logic dictates that it has to operate that way. In their defense the check valve seems totally ignored in the AMM. That’s kind of an amazing omission.
