DA62 Tow-bar

Post by janders »

When I received my '62 there was a red tow-bar in the nose compartment with a black ball attachment. Every ground crew I've worked with has never seen something that accepts the black ball; they're used to a ring.

1) What is the black ball supposed to mate to?
2) Anyone know where I can purchase a different attachment for the tow bar for either attaching to a tug or a handle for manual pushing?

The tow-bar I have looks similar to this (https://www.ebay.com/itm/333696034426) on the plane side, just instead of a handle there is a black ball.

The black ball fits into your hand. That isn't so much a tow bar as it is a steering bar for when you, and several friends, are manually pushing the DA62 around, jockeying it into a parking space for instance.

For me I realized right away that pushing a 3,500 lb aircraft up over the typical hangar track grooves that stick up and only having 1 ft clearance on each side I decided to go with https://redlineaviation.com/

For me the Sidewinder works great and has precise control for those tight hangar spaces.

I also use the Sidewinder and love it. Nice and compact design allows me to take it which me if I think I might need it. Great product!
