Headings failure

Post by Luis Mendes »

Hi folks
In the middle of the flight got this situation without any G1000 Caution lights. AP remains on and GPS flips to ROL mode and then after 2-3 minutes returns to normal.
It happened in two consecutive flights. Any hint what might caused it and why it troubleshoots alone?
Thanks

Possibly a GMU 44 magnetometer failure. Or the wiring coming from it.

There are solutions of this HDG failure in 190-00907-00, G1000 System Maintenance Manual for Standard Piston/Turboprop Aircraft, Page 5-7 (pdf page 43)

If it happens again, on MFD go to AUX -> System Status page and make screenshot of GMU1 status (green tick or red cross)

From my experience I saw GMU fail only once. There was wrong GMU 44 Magnetometer installation (shifted relative to the arrow FLIGHT DIRECTION). That's why please compare HDG parameter value on G1000 and on magnetic stand by compass.
