GNS530W display fail
A few minutes before landing yesterday the display on my 530W just turned off. Radio still worked, but no display whatsoever. After landing tried cycling power a couple of times, but no change.
Anyone else experience this failure? I dread how long it may take to get the unit pulled, repaired.

Re: GNS530W display fail
I have heard of this. Garmin has historically been very quick turning these around, though right now that might be slower than before. Most recently (a couple of years ago) I pulled mine due to the antiglare coating being munged up. Got it back in a week.ahmebane wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 7:34 pm A few minutes before landing yesterday the display on my 530W just turned off. Radio still worked, but no display whatsoever. Re: GNS530W display fail
I looked at the display in low light & it was actually on, but very dim. Shortly after power up, it displayed the message "Display backlight failure" (or something to that effect). I tried putting the display in to manual brightness mode & restoring factory defaults, but no change. Guess the unit will have to be pulled.

My experience with Garmin is also very quick turnaround. Check out this link for their flat repair process and rates

Re: GNS530W display fail
I heard rumors of longer turn time and no advance replacements, but that was not my experience earlier this year when I had to exchange a GIA63W twice. Exchange prices have gone up, but they seem to be readily available.

Re: GNS530W display fail
When my GNS needed to be sent to Garmin for repairs, my avionics shop provided a loaner free of charge. They replicated the config from a printout of my own unit's settings which they had on file and put my data cards in the loaner unit. Might be worth asking your shop if they have one.

Re: GNS530W display fail
Just a reminder of a minor detail: It's a good bet when it's returned to you it'll have updated system software. If you have a second GNS (a 430W in my case) and you use crossfill you'll also need to update that unit's software.

Re: GNS530W display fail
Just a reminder. Garmin does a "flat rate repair". Make sure you note EVERYTHING that may be an issue. Sticky buttons, scratchy volume control, lower power transmit, etc. What might be the slightest issue. That way they basically give you back a refurbished radio instead of a repaired radio.
