FYI, I have two Macs (one work one personal) The new M1 with ventura doesn't like the DB Updater app for SD cards. It does work for updating the 430 Data cards though. The older intel based work Mac Still had the old fly Garmin installed (v 1.0.4) and That worked for updating the G1000 cards today.

According to the experimental G3X team at Garmin, the database manager issue for Mac OS will be resolved soon. He did not define "soon".

Out of curiosity, does the Garmin Flighstream update process still work? I know it's slow, but...

Jeppesen now expects a fix for JDM/MacOS/Ventura to be available in the middle of January. If so, one more nav data update prior.

I haven't upgraded my MacBook to Ventura yet, but I noticed today that Garmin DB Manager has a new version 22.12.8 with "Improved MacOS compatibility" in the release notes. Howevder, it doesn't explicitly say Ventura and the fly.garmin.com webpage still has the banner saying "The Garmin Aviation Database Manager is not yet compatible with the recently released macOS Ventura."

So now I'm curious if anybody has tried to use the new 22.12.8 version with Ventura yet.

After finally getting around to updating my work MacBook to Ventura, it seems like Garmin Aviation Database Manager version 22.12.8 works fine with it, at least on my Intel-based MacBook Pro. It's possible that M1-based systems may not work yet, but I don't have one of those to test with. Garmin still hasn't remove the banner from their web page, so perhaps they're planning on some further improvements.

The emulation layer is very good - I would expect it to work if the Intel one does unless Garmin specifically tests for it and bails. I spent an embarrassing amount of time testing something in the Unreal Engine for M1 only to later realize that I had been running the Intel binary not the Apple binary.

Update from Garmin Support. Clearly they take full responsibility...

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. There is a known issue with Ventura. Apple updated to Ventura a while back and locked out multiple apps including Garmins. We are actively working on a resolution for this. At this time, you will need a windows computer or another Mac not running Ventura to load the databases.

OK. I finally got a real answer. I made this change and it works. Those of you with a technical background and or familiarity with Unix may find some of this cringeworthy...

The effect of this command is to change the permissions on the SD card to read/write for everyone.

The silicon based processor uses a different OS form that the intel ones do. The silicons use an ARM based operating system.

This is at your risk if you want to do this. It works however if the steps are not followed I can not promise success which is why I said to have us remote in to the computer and fix it. Garmin is not responsible for any software problems by not following these steps.

Please note down the DEBUG messages from GADM mentioning a raw disk file path ( /dev/rdisk2s1 in this example), keep this file path in mind as we will need it later.

[Note: This was not the actual device id for my SD card and may or may not be for your SD card. You can use the MacOS Disk Utility to find the device id of your SD card, then you need to add the "r" prefix.]

Open the Terminal app and enter the following command:
sudo chmod 666 RAW_DISK_FILEPATH

Example: sudo chmod 666 /dev/rdisk2s1

Enter login password and hit Return
The command will run but will not output any message if success
