Re: DA50 Owners: PIREPS Appreciated!
Yesterday I had test flight with DA50RG OE-VTW located at DAI factory hangar in Wiener Neustadt LOAN airport in Austria. The aircraft flies nice and stable although it's a bit nose heavy (nothing that can't be solved with trimming). Electric ruder trim is also nice feature and overall cockpit looks great. The cabin is really spacious (practically the same as in DA62) and the seats are super-comfortable. All in all an impressive improvement in space, comfort and finishing comparing to my DA42. Avionics is standard for new generation of the aircrafts G1000 NXi and I needed some time to adapt to new features compared to standard G1000. CD-300 has sufficient power for delivering good rate of climb and nice cruise speed (both a bit higher than specified in the manual); it's efficient and low consumption engine, although a bit heavy. The only problem I currently see is the range - realistically it’s 500 NM or 3 hours plus reserve. But they work on extending it - we'll see what the future will bring. Backlog is there, aircrafts are produced and delivered - I saw two which will be delivered next week to new owners in two European countries and several ones in different stages of productions, all for already known customers. It seems that market for this aircraft exists.

I also visited the DAI factory a few weeks ago (in connection with a DA42 we have on order, and taking a closer look at the DA62). While we were there we spoke to the customer of DA50 serial no 7 who was there to do acceptance flight. A Dutch guy who seemed really happy about the plane. I understood that there is another 10 aircraft in production or so already. So there is some demand.

They took the final specs on mine a few weeks ago... and have started the build.
Now the question is when will the FAA certify it?
Im hoping this summer

I had an hour+ in the DA50 at Diamond Austria. It flies like a Diamond. The Continental CD-300 runs a bit rougher than a pair of AE-330s and visibility over the nose isn’t as good as a in a 42 or a 62. The structural strut bisecting the windscreen (it’s actually inside and doesn’t touch the acrylic) is necessitated by that big engine up front, but you forget it’s there after a few minutes. Ground handling with the castering nose wheel took no more than 30 seconds to get used to; in fact, it’s easier to taxi than the twins. The double slotted flaps work well, though they moan a bit when fully extended. Slower rotation, approach and touchdown speeds are really nice. I’m slowly getting used to the way the DA50 looks: ‘aggressive’ is the nicest thing I can say about it. Some people love its looks.

If I were to get one, I'd have them paint a shark's mouth on it - that would look cool.photoSteveZ wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 2:01 am...I’m slowly getting used to the way the DA50 looks: ‘aggressive’ is the nicest thing I can say about it. Some people love its looks.

70 hours in and really appreciating 036. Space flying manners and economy absolutely above expectations. My only gripe is with the cooling fan which is useless.
One warning, if you do very tight turns on the ground you can get the unsafe landing gear warning going off. This can be very disconcerting if the turn is just after landing and you start questioning whether you checked for 3 greens properly. This normally resets on shutdown

Anyone have the scoop on where Diamond will add some more fuel capacity to the plane?
