Iridium Certus Go (Aircraft Internet) Now Available

Post by VickersPilot »

[Good News]
Iridium have finally launched Iridium Certus Exec, an 88kbit midband connection..

"Iridium GO! exec is built to withstand the elements—whether it’s used on land, sea, or in air."

[Bad News]
The device is reasonably priced at $1,599 but a horrendous rip off to use. $159.95 gets you only 50mb per month. What's that - one email with a few attachments? $4.20 for each additional mb.

Specialized apps will help conserve data and I'm sure we will see FF appear as a spiralised app before long bringing in flight data to the cockpit. Feels like price gouging per mb in 2023. Hopefully Starlink will launch a competing device and give them a bit of a Nokia treatment to innovation!
