Ontario, Canada to Phoenix Trip Advice

Post by brourke »

Looking to do a trip from Ontario (Collingwood) to Phoenix in February 2023 in our DA40 (GJOJ). Have ADSB and IFR rated. Appreciate any tips and suggestions on the best route that time of year, especially through the mountains into Phoenix. Likely cross the border at Port Huron.

Hi Bill,

I've flown that direction a bunch of times, and I imagine you will wind up stopped at ABQ for fuel (I like the Cutter FBO). From there it is pretty direct to get to Phoenix. Are you landing at the main airport or a place like Scottsdale? In any case, I would fly KABQ ABQ BUREW SJN PXR KPHX and as you approach the bravo they will start vectoring you. Over Roosevelt Lake I usually follow the canyon out, since the terrain is a little lower.

Thanks for feedback. Planning to land at Sky Ranch in Carefree as visiting friends at the Boulders, which will keep me outside the Bravo airspace

Had a good trip to Scottsdale and back. Used FlashPass to for customs into the US and back which worked very well for filing eAPIS on a tablet/phone

Care to say more about FlashPass? I don’t see it on the iOS AppStore.

FlashPass on the App Store

They also have a webite: https://www.flashpass.net

Might not show up for iPad, I can't remember if they released a separate app.
