DA40 Pitot Heat
My pitot heat will randomly stop working. Anyone ever experience this? Sadly the breaker doesn't pop, I get a message that flashes up saying pitot heat has failed.

Re: DA40 Pitot Heat
Probably a bad ground. The pitot fail sensor only senses if there is power available to the mast. If it loses ground it thinks there no power available. Turn the pitot heat on momentarily then turn off and carefully check that the mast has warmed up. If it’s warm then the heat is OK. Probably loose or slightly corroded ground. I think the ground is behind the instrument panel in the vicinity of the flap switch.

Re: DA40 Pitot Heat
It's normal to see this on the ground. If it happens in flight then there is some sort of problem.

Re: DA40 Pitot Heat
Thanks, I'll check the mast to see if it's heating up. It's happened both on the ground and in the air. Thanks for the information on the ground location of the pitot system, behind the panel near the flap switch makes it a little easier to troubleshoot.
Cheer,
Mike
