Discussion With Diamond Canada

Post by Zebedee »

Just a couple things gleaned from discussion with Diamond Canada yesterday.

1. 2 seat 2nd row, not an option in US/Canada right now. They were surprised as anyone when it showed up in catalog.

2. Colored stitching not an option right now. All leather and seat options are ordered about a year ahead of time. Issues arise with "Custom" orders that are damaged in shipping, too long of a wait for replacement. They seem to be only stocking most popular options for those reasons. With delivery dates out to 2 years, I think you will see these options at some point, just not in time for me.

3. Very few production delays on DA62 right now.

4. Down to the last few GWX70 radars, after that '75s will be installed.

Probably nothing earth shattering here, just wanted to share.

Interestingly, most of my passengers find the second row seats uncomfortable. If they make the upgrade possible, I’d like to make this upgrade.

3. What do you think they meant by that? My plane was just delayed another two weeks. New orders still seem to be 24mo out so is that considered the new normal for a DA62 delivery?

4. Did they provide any information on when the GWX75 will be certified?

I'm not positive, but the guy I spoke to "implied" that my plane would go into flight testing end of June and once detailed would be available for delivery beginning of July. Obviously some play time in there that they might be incorporating possible delays. He flat out said, little or no delays in production due to supply issues. I imagine 2 weeks falls under the "little" delay category.

My Ser. # is C062 ( easy to remember )

The implication is that '75 radar was already certified. They claimed that Diamond Canada was somewhat of its own entity and therefore had pursued certification separately from Austria. I could have misunderstood what he was saying, and to which specific certifications it applied, I don't know.

That sounds a little optimistic. The Diamond on Order spreadsheet shows that 62.C060 is expected around June 23.

62.C053 was delivered three weeks ago and my 62.C055 is not expected until next month.

The type certificate for the 62 is held by Diamond Canada and certification comes from Transport Canada. There are a number of owners waiting for certification of what Diamond calls "phase 3" for the G1000NXi, which includes the GWX75. I'm fairly certain that it has not yet been certified as I have paid for the GWX75, but my plane will be shipped "radar ready" since it is not yet certified.

Many owners hope your contact was correct and that it is certified before your plane is delivered!

I think someone in Canada blowing some proverbial smoke.

I thought I heard 2 da62/ month

At that rate and C60 showing 6/23. End of July is not out of the question.

All the other stuff probably didn’t mean much. Admittedly, I was talking to a sales rep.

Oh well. Hope springs eternal.

I think the people in Canada and Austria are sincere and don't intentionally mislead, but at the same time they have not always been entirely transparent with their customers. Diamond in Canada has had difficulties for a long time working with Transport Canada and I think sometimes their optimism gets ahead of reality.

Maybe part of the discussion needs to happen with Transport Canada.

Great idea! Please contact them on our behalf. I would be happy to join any focus group they would convene.

Would the certification by Transport Canada garner reciprocity with the FAA in the US?
