Changing Flight Id / call sign
Does anyone know how to change the Flight Id / call sign in G1000 Nxi on DA40NG? I’ve had issues with ATC asking me to change it due to a conflict with the flight plan (they want me to drop the “VH-“ from the front). But I can’t see how to change it in the G1000 NXI manual? Does anyone know? It seems it can be done in other aircraft running G1000. Thanks

Re: Changing Flight Id / call sign
To change the flight ID requires re-booting the G1000 NXi into Configuration/Maintenance mode *WITH* the Software Loader SDcard for your aircraft's G1000 NXi loaded. Unfortunately most owners don't have this Software Loader SDcard: Diamond Canada doesn't supply this card to new owners/customers, whereas in the past Diamond Austria *did* include this SDcard with new aircraft.
What this means is that you may need to work with a local Garmin avionics shop that has password-protected access to the dealer portion of Garmin's website. The dealer can download the file needed to create a new G1000 NXi Software Loader SDcard for your plane's flight deck. The dealer can then change the flight ID.

Not sure that the SW Loader card is required. I was digging around looking for another setting last week and I think I recall coming across the default Flight ID. Try looking at the settings for the GTX345.

On my 2004 with WAAS upgrade if you press the timer/ref button then it is on the bottom of the inset screen - at the bottom - below the minimums. Can change it right there.

Re: Changing Flight Id / call sign
I am not sure if the software loader card is needed for the NXi. With the legacy G1000 it is not needed; however if you have the GTX-3X5R it is a two step process and must be done with the dealer software via USB dongle to the transponder, in addition to a configuration change in the G1000.
The flight ID can be statically configured in the G1000 maintenance mode. However there is another option which allows the flight ID to be dynamically changed via the reference button as Charles pointed out.
Unfortunately with the legacy G1000, selecting the option to allow dynamic flight ID change or changing the flight ID in the G1000 configuration alone will not work with the GTX-3X5R. The option needs to be changed both in the G1000 configuration as well as via the dealer only software.
The reason I do not know whether the loader card is needed for the NXi is that the remote transponder configuration may in fact require that loader card. I'm not sure, since I have a legacy G1000. But you can certainly try booting the G1000 into maintenance mode (pull the MFD breaker, hold ENT on PFD, flip master, hold ENT on MFD, push in MFD breaker.) Then you can get to the transponder configuration and find the flight ID and dynamic flight ID options.

I already tried this, which is how I learned a software loader card is needed for NXi.mhoran wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 8:12 pm The reason I do not know whether the loader card is needed for the NXi is that the remote transponder configuration may in fact require that loader card. Re: Changing Flight Id / call sign
I've had this situation on a couple of planes. With my G1000 NXi DA42, I frequently change my Flight ID before and after Angel Flight missions. I change to my "NGFxxxx" number and use that as my call sign. You don't need the software loader card to do this but you will need an avionics shop to enable you to have the ability to change the flight id. When I bought my DA42, this was not enabled but it was a 5 minute exercise for the avionics shop.
When the ability to change the flight ID is enabled, you will be able to change it in the TMR window on the PFD. There is a field at the bottom of the TMR window that allows you to change the flight ID at any time.

Re: Changing Flight Id / call sign
I struggled with this and finally got it with help from this forum and an avionics guru (which got me into config mode to look around). This was my experience with a DA40 NG G1000 NXI. This is for educational purposes, please contact a certified avionics specialist for help. Use at your own risk. /disclaimer
Flight ID Configuration for Dynamic Setting on TMR/REF
0. Enter configuration mode on G1000 NXI, by pressing and holding ENT key on PFD and MDF and turning the Electric Master ON. I know this is tricky with one person.
1. Select the GTX Group and the TRANSPONDER AIRFRAME CONFIG page on the PFD.
2. Activate the cursor and select the “FLIGHT ID TYPE” field.
3. Rotate the small FMS knob to activate the drop-down menu.
4. Select “PFD ENTRY” and press the ENT key.
5. After completing transponder configuration, deactivate the cursor.
6. Press GTX1->SET softkey to save
7. Wait for save to complete.
8. Turn Electric Master OFF.
9. Wait.
10. Turn Electric Master ON and check the TMR/REF button.
PFD - MAIN - CONFIG PAGE
PDF - GTX GROUP PAGE - "TRANSPONDER AIRFRAME CONFIG"
HOME SCREEN ON PFD WITH THE TMR/REF BUTTON SELECTED, SHOWS DYNAMIC EDIT OF FLIGHT ID. YEAH.

Re: Changing Flight Id / call sign
Thanks this is helpful; I’ve stopped using my NGF call sign because of nasty grams from the FAA complaining that my flight plan and transponder ID don’t match. I’ve been putting “Operating as NGF 5942” in the “additional remarks” section of my flight plans, but recently I’ve gotten some static from occasional controllers about how they don’t like that and think it should be one or the other. I don’t mind the occasional ATC static but if it’s an easy change, that would be good. I will inquire about this at my upcoming annual. I do a lot of Angel Flights so it would be really nice to be able to change it quickly and easily.
Thanks!
Thanks!
