Re: Plugs
My mags are running better, smoother and I can lean about a half a gallon leaner at 65% at 10,000.
Plus I paid a hell of alot for them so I have to say they run better and are worth it. In all seriousness Fred, they are worth it. You will see noticable differences. Audibly, I can hear the difference. Smoother. It sounds more like a sowing machine than a lawn mower.

Re: Plugs
Gary, by using the fine wire plugs does that change the 2200 TBO to 2000? I only know they said the extended TBO required auth parts; are spark plugs covered in this?Gary wrote:I think they are worth it, especially if your current plugs are getting old.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Plugs
I am not sure that I understand the question. Engine TBO is an AMM Chapter 5 recommendation. If an A&P IA signs off the engine as airworthy at annual you can fly beyond TBO. Chapter 4 engine related required replacements include all fuel hoses and oil hoses at 2000 hours or 12 years (NVFR or IFR) and pressure test oil radiator at 2000 hours or 12 years (IFR). It would not look good for you or the A&P if you had an engine failure after TBO. Fine wire plugs are approved (PMA) for the engine so it should not affect TBO.Fred wrote: Gary, by using the fine wire plugs does that change the 2200 TBO to 2000? Re: Plugs
I used Champion fine wire plugs that run around $80 each. You can get them from many suppliers like Aircraft Spruce or Chief but my A&P ordered them and I do not know who the supplier was. Tempest makes a less expensive fine wire plug that runs around $50 but there have been supply problems in the past.Antoine wrote:Where can I get some? How much?

Re: Plugs
Hello Antoine, It would be great to have your pirep if you switch to fine wire plugs. Aircraft Spruce has a european site.
I am convinced that GAMIjectors is another interesting performance upgrade. Does anybody know of a european shop that would install it ?

Re: Plugs
Is that all you need to change to get the performance improvement, just the plugs? No need to change the mags or harnesses?
At half a gallon per hour in cruise, they would pay for themselves within 100 hours at the fuel prices around here. The manufacturer claims a lifespan of three times as long as a regular plug and they are about 3 times as expensive, so they pay for themselves even without the fuel economy. Sounds like a no brainer. But you know the saying, if it's too good to be true...
